Hello!!
Welcome to the Mission 31 / Northeastern surface team blog. We are set to start our portion of Mission 31 on June 16th, 2014. During that time we will be taking turns sharing our daily experiences at the shore base in Islamorada, FL and our field work at the Aquarius site on Conch Reef; our adventures, our experiments, our outreach and of course our trips to Aquarius.
Lately, I have been reminiscing about my love for the ocean. One evening, the Northeastern team got together and watched some of the old Cousteau movies. These films, especially "World without Sun", reminds me of how incredible Cousteau's team was living in Conself 2 for 30 days. I tell a lot of my friends and family about Mission 31 and the Cousteaus and it is a little disappointing to find out that many have forgotten about Jacques Cousteau. The silver lining is that his legacy is well integrated in our lives and fantasies. Conshelf 2 is still an iconic structure that is seen in many artworks. Films about living under the sea like "The Abyss" and "The Life Aquatic" all have influences from the Conshelf 2 mission.
Even my childhood favorite toys (LEGO) have Jacques Cousteau influence in them.

I think at the end of the day, I hope what I do can influence the public like Jacques Cousteau has. I am optimistic that Fabien, Northeastern and the Mission 31 team can "empower" and influence our next generation of ocean lovers in underwater science, adventure and exploration.
Well that is all for me for now!
On behalf of the surface team, welcome to our blog and stay tuned!
